The Challenge

Ronald McDonald House (RMH) expanded thier services to a new location with the opening of the  RMH Mission Bay.  It’s critical for remote users to connect to the headquarters and utilize special applications that require very low latency.  Working within strict Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines in coordination with UCSF hospital, Mission Bay is no different, and with older server infrastructure, this was a real challenge for RMH.

The Solution

Eaton & Associates designed and deployed an optimal server hardware configuration that fits Ronald McDonald House’s needs and budget.  Eaton & Associates is also implementing a sound IT policy for the organization’s remote use needs while ensuring data integrity, business continuity, and 24/7 support.

The Outcome

Ronald McDonald House now has full remote capabilities accessing server infrastructure effortlessly regardless of user location.  RMH Mission Bay staff are now able to perform all the required tasks without having to rely solely on a slower site-to-site VPN connection. The combination of the new network design and Eaton & Associates Managed IT Services and 24/7 support has helped Ronald McDonald House switch their IT to a vital asset in managing multiple locations.

Case Study – COUNTY OF SAN MATEO

Eaton & Associates is a provider of products and services for San Mateo County.  We also provide staffing services through our Human Capital Solutions Division.

Our professional services, procurement, and staffing departments work closely with each other resulting in a beneficial partnership for San Mateo County.

San Mateo County Information Services Department – Core Network Upgrade Project

The recently completed County Network Upgrade Project for the Information Services Department (ISD – County’s Central IT Department) is a good example of how the different divisions within Eaton & Associates coordinate to provide a comprehensive solution for our clients.  ISD undertook an initiative to upgrade its existing network infrastructure by implementing a strategy to move away from proprietary solutions to open standards.  This project includes the design and buildout of a new data center in downtown Redwood City, as well as, upgrading 5 other data centers distributed throughout the County.  Eaton & Associates through our professional services staff and supplemented by Hewlett Packard subject matter experts (SMEs) designed and deployed their new network.  Our procurement department not only handled the procurement but also warehoused and provided on-time delivery for the equipment.  We also staged the equipment at our facility for initial configuration and testing prior to delivery.  Lastly, our staffing division successfully identified project management and technical resources that the ISD engaged as staff augmentation.

San Mateo County Medical Center – Wi-Fi Initiatives

Eaton & Associates has completed several Wi-Fi projects for the San Mateo Medical Center as part of their Wi-Fi and VDI initiatives.  At the Medical Center, Eaton & Associates completed a project that improved the coverage and performance of the existing wireless network. To accomplish this, we performed heat mapping of the existing Wi-Fi network and performed a physical survey to fine-tune the placement of new access points and relocation of others.  The Wi-Fi controller was also upgraded.  In addition, a problem with connectivity for their existing VDI-based mobile nursing carts was solved after detailed troubleshooting of identified hardware compatibility issues.  Eaton & Associates also conducted physical Wi-Fi surveys and designs for over 15 health to facilitate the Medical Center’s plans to provide secure Wi-Fi in all their facilities.

San Mateo County – Regional Fiber Network

Eaton & Associates is nearing the completion of a project for San Mateo County to provide a new Dark Fiber Network.  This project once completed will connect 18 County facilities to each other and to data centers at 200 Paul St. in San Francisco and the Palo Alto Internet Exchange (PAIX).  Eaton & Associates, in part with our construction partner, provided project management, design, construction, and implementation services.  As an extension of this project, Eaton & Associates is designing a Multi-Jurisdictional Fiber Ring that once completed will allow cities in San Mateo County and nearby counties to leverage the newly completed County dark fiber.  Currently, 8 cities are participating in the project with plans to join additional cities throughout the Bay Area.
